Lemont Native's Book Made Into Hulu Series
The book, 'Light As A Feather, Stiff As A Board' was made into a Hulu series called 'Light As A Feather,' which premiered on Oct. 12.

LEMONT, IL — Lemont native and now Los Angeles resident Alexandra Fletcher has had her book made into a series on Hulu. The book, 'Light As A Feather, Stiff As A Board' was made into a Hulu series called 'Light As A Feather,' which premiered on Oct. 12 on the streaming service.
The author moved to Lemont when she was in sixth grade and she said she used Lemont as inspiration while writing her book.
"A great deal of my experience growing up in Lemont influenced my book, 'Light as a Feather.' The story is set in a small town in Wisconsin, much of which is based on Lemont," Fletcher, who writes under pen name Zoe Aarsen, said. "Lemont's grown in size considerably since I was a kid there in the early 90s, but back then it was a place where you knew everyone who lived on your block."

After graduating from LHS, Fletcher went on to NYU film school and originally wrote her book five years ago. She first published the book through the publishing company she had started.
"A producer in Los Angeles with whom I'd been in contact brought it to the attention of Kelsey Grammer, who was the executive producer of the show 'Medium,' Fletcher said. "He has an interest in paranormal themes, so he was on board with the project from the very beginning, and has been really supportive in seeing the TV show make its way into production."

Fletcher then shared her book on Wattpad to build an audience. She said the show was ultimately bought by Awesomeness TV as part of their distribution deal for teen content with Hulu.
According to the book's Goodreads page, the book involves a game called 'light as a feather, stiff as a board' and a group of girls make up stories about how they may die. But then, one of the girls dies exactly as predicted, and the girls know they have to bring an end to the game.
Simon & Schuster have now showed interest in publishing the 3-book series, Fletcher said.
"My editor, Jessi Smith, at Simon Pulse, has restored my excitement about bringing Light as a Feather to new readers," Fletcher said.
"I structured these books around the theme of the power of female friendships, and about young women saving their friends' lives," Fletcher said. "It's a theme in which I believe very strongly because I am fortunate to have so many great friends in my life."
