LEMONT, IL — Lemont Park District has broken ground on its new community courtyard, which will be located in front of the CORE Fitness and Aquatic Complex. The park district said the courtyard will feature a center fountain, seating, landscaping and personalized pavers.

Cindy and Larry Rizzo have donated $25,000 to create the courtyard which will honor their son, Danny, who was killed in a car accident in 2017. In April, the Lemont Park District Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to accept the donation and enter into a partnership with the Danny Rizzo Memorial Scholarship Fund to create the Community Courtyard.

The park district said construction should take two weeks, weather permitting. The project was funded by the donation from the Rizzos and fundraising from the Danny Rizzo Memorial Scholarship Fund, as well as the ongoing sales of personalized paver bricks.

“The District is extremely grateful to accept this generous donation from the Rizzo family to
assist in funding the creation of a beautiful Community Courtyard outside The CORE. This
special place will be enjoyed by many. Not only will it honor Larry and Cindy’s son Danny, a
beloved employee of the Lemont Park District, it will also give our members and guests an
opportunity to be part of this project sharing their special memories,” Lemont Park District
Board President Brian Pepich said in a release. “In the presentation given by the Rizzo family to the park district board, it was adamant that this project is truly something for the community to be a part of and enjoy."
