Lemont Police rally support once again for their "No Shave" months

Officer Lauricella and Chaplain Terri visit with one of this year's "No Shave" recipients to let her know they are growing beards in support

Update- January 25, 2024- Our friend Tracy, her son and his friend were invited to the Lemont Police Department for a tour and for the showing off of beards being grown in her honor!

Tracy is to be a recipient of Lemont Police Department's "No Shave" months. They are making donations to be able to don beards through the end of February.

Residents can support the Lemont Police Department's effort to rally funds for Tracy (a Lemont resident who battles GIST cancer).

Original article:

Since 2017 the Lemont Police Department has participated in "No Shave" months. Their first gift of "No Shave" support was to assist their Chaplain Terri O'Neill-Borders' husband, in his diagnosis and eventual surgery with throat cancer. It is not just for financial help, but also provides emotional boost for those who are the reason facial hair grows at the Lemont Police Department!

Since that year, the Lemont Police Department has offered this outreach of support narrowing in on a specific mission and recipients for each year. Commander Dan Dykshorn has said that each year he hopes that there would be no need to rally support, however, as we are well aware that will most likely not happen.

Last week Officer Lauricella (School District 113A Resource Officer) and Chaplain Terri visiting Tracy Nelson and her son, Noah, to inform her that she is one of this year's "No-Shave" Days recipients. She is a Lemont resident, mom of a young son in School District 113A, and she is battling GIST cancer. She was diagnosed on this past Valentine's Day, and has been waging a valiant battle exhibiting the strength of a true warrior. Tracy was so appreciative of the support that the Lemont Police are offering to her to walk with her through this battle; and Noah was thrilled to know that when he sees Officer John, and other officers, with their beards that they are doing that to show support for his mom!

Each month in exchange for the opportunity to grow out their beards (which are normally not permitted) officers are making donations that will be offered as assistance to the "No Shave" recipients.
The "No-Shave" Days will continue through February 2024. Until then the officers can grow those beards and continue to offer donations and emotional support...then they will have to shave!

Meanwhile over the next couple of months offer your support to our Lemont Police Department as they continue to contribute to our community in their tasks and commitment to serve and protect, and above and beyond that to support those within the community they are apart of; and don't forget to compliment them on those most amazing beards!!!
