Lemont Residents Approve Library Referendum
Once results have been certified, the library board will begin moving ahead with plans.

Lemont residents Tuesday passed a referendum that will allow the Lemont Public Library to acquire bonds to pay for a $2.8 million renovation project.
With all precincts in, the referendum passed with 56 percent of the vote.
Effects of the bond payments will appear on tax bills beginning in 2016, once the bonds used in the construction of the original library are paid off. The debt will be repaid at a lower interest than the current debt, on a 20-year plan.

Renovation plans include reconfiguring the addition of space near the front of the building, in addition to reorganizing current space to allow for more quiet reading areas. Plans also include updating electrical and data systems, roof replacement, parking lot repairs and carpet replacement.
The library board aims to have construction completed by December 2015.
