LEMONT, IL — With just a few days left in August, fall events will soon be in full swing in Lemont. Lemontster Days 2023 returns with several events this September and October, bringing scarecrows, spooky movies, festivals and more to Lemont.
Here's a look at what is planned:
- Trail of Scarecrows competition: Vote for your favorite scarecrow at the trail at Lemont Township Community Center, 16300 Alba St. Vote from Sept. 23 to Oct. 21.
- Scarecrow Fest, hosted at Lemont Township Community Center, from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 23. Games, raffles, and welcome the scarecrow trail.
- Lemont Juniorettes Monster and Me Mile Run, 2 p.m. on Sept. 23, at the Lemont Township Community Center. $10 per person, register online.
- Fire District Open House, 11 a.m to 2 p.m. on Sept. 30 at Fire Station No. 1, 15900 New Ave. Firefighter demonstrations and displays, ladder trucks, fire engines and ambulances.
- "Spirits of the Limestone," at the Lemont Area Historical Society on Sept. 30. Exploring Lemont's paranormal history.
- Drive-In Movie, "The Nightmare Before Christmas," at Lemont Park District Centennial Park. Gates open at 6 p.m. on Oct. 6. You must pre-register with the park district; space is limited.
- Witches Walk, from 4 to 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 7 in downtown Lemont. Register online for the walk, featuring drinks, treats and the Witches Ball.
- "Hocus Pocus," "Hocus Pocus 2," movie nights at the historical society, 306 Lemont St. Tickets are $5. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 13 and Oct. 14.
- Trick or Treat Trail at Lemont Park District Centennial Park. For ages 2 to 12 only, you must pre-register with the park district. 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 14.
- Paranormal Investigation with Ghostly Voices, at the Lemont Public Library, 50 E. Wend St. 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 19. Jean Nicole Tito shares paranormal investigations from the past 20 years visiting haunted locations.
- Spooky Cookie Decorating at Lemont Library. For grades 6-12, you must pre-register. 3:45 to 4:45 on Oct. 24.
- Haunted Mansion Family Night, at Lemont Public Library, at 6 p.m. Oct. 25. Family-friendly; registration is required. Listen to ghost stories and create your own haunted mansion.
- "Into the Devil's Reach," Author Meet and Greet and Movie Night at Lemont Historical Society at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 26. Meet local author Louis Weinberger.
- Halloween Hoedown, on Oct. 28 in downtown Lemont. Costume contest at 10:30 a.m., trick-or-treating and parade at 11 a.m.
- Halloween After-Party, 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31, at Lemont Library. Drop-in event, candy swap, tricks and treats.
Also, the Lemont Park District will hold a home decorating contest throughout the month of October. Those who want to participate should register with the park district by Oct. 26.

Donations will also be collected throughout October for the Lemont food pantries. You drop off donations at the Lemont Police Department, Village Hall, Starbucks or Jewel.
