LHS Senior Earns Perfect Score On ACT

LEMONT, IL — Lemont High School senior Taylor Shimkus has achieved something only a handful of high school students ever will accomplish. Shimkus recorded a 36 on the ACT during the April administration of the exam, becoming just the sixth Lemont High School student ever to achieve the feat, the school said.

According to the school, Shimkus has proven to be one of the most high-performing students in Lemont’s Class of 2020 since first walking through the school’s doors as a seventh grader. She has posted a weighted grade point average of nearly 4.60. In addition to her perfect ACT score, she also recently scored a 1580 (of a possible 1600) on the SAT.

Shimkus began her career at Lemont High School as a middle schooler, taking accelerated math classes on campus in both seventh and eighth grade while still a student at Old Quarry Middle School, LHS said.

Shimkus has played both the mellophone and trumpet while part of the school’s Marching Band, Concert Band and Honors Symphonic Band. A member of the Downers Grove Dazzlers synchronized ice skating team, Shimkus is also involved in the Interact Club, World Languages Club, Technology Student Association and Robotics Club. She also has competed in the state finals as a member of Academic Challenge and Mathletes.

The school said Shimkus has been inducted into the school’s chapters of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, and the Mu Alpha Theta math honor society. Shimkus has already completed six Advanced Placement classes in her career and is enrolled in five more AP classes as a senior.

The other Lemont students to earn a 36 on an ACT exam were Marjorie Dallmann ‘12, Taylor Campos ‘16, Anna Ford ‘18, Sarah Hagen ‘17 and Natalie Hartl ‘18.
