Local Girl Scouts Sock It to 'Em with Donation Drive

The Brownies collected more than 1,000 pairs of socks for local people in need.

A local donation effort was a hit, as Girl Scout Troop 70360 far exceeded its goal of 1,000 pairs of socks for those in need.

The girls of Brownie Troop 360 rounded up donations of men’s socks, women’s socks, kid’s socks, baby socks, sport socks, dress socks, even silly socks, for donation to the Hope and Friendship Foundation’s Winter Clothing Drive.

It was the troop’s first year running the drive, after it had been handed down from an older group, said leader Robyn Horn.

“It’s nice to see ’sharing’ of projects to benefit Lemont,” Horn wrote. “The girls really had a hard time getting to their goal of 1,000 pairs this year but they did it! They walked door to door. I think half of Lemont had flyers on the drive and as always really came through for us!”

The group collected 1,297 pairs that have already been dropped off the foundation.

“They had a fantastic time and would like to thank everyone who donated and to let them know they’ll be back next year to keep Lemont Warm,” Horn said.
