Local Libraries Collecting Donations In Book Drops

Operation Handing Out Protective Equipment is an effort with eight libraries to support healthcare workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

NEW LENOX, IL — Several libraries in the south suburbs have opened their book drops to collect donations of personal protective equipment for area hospitals and health care workers. According to New Lenox library, Operation Handing Out Protective Equipment is an effort between eight local libraries to help support healthcare workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

Donations will be dropped off at Silver Cross Hospital, AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center and Morris Hospital and Healthcare Centers.

The libraries will be collecting N95 masks, procedural masks, isolation gowns, surgical gowns, disposable lab coats, Tyvek coveralls, hand-sewn masks, and hand sanitizer and bleach wipes.

  • Shorewood-Troy Public Library, 650 Deerwood Drive, Shorewood
  • Plainfield Public Library, 15025 S. Illinois St.
  • Lemont Public Library, 50 E. Wend St.
  • Three Rivers Public Library District-Minooka branch, 109 N. Wabena Ave.
  • Coal City Public Library, 85 N. Garfield St.
  • Robert W. Rowe Public Library, 120 E. Si Johnson Ave., Sheridan

Books drops are open for the protective equipment only. Patrons have been asked to hold on to checked-out materials until the libraries reopen.
