Old Quarry Graduate Selected for Prestigious Congress of Future Medical Leaders
Lemont student Daniel Luciano III will represent Illinois at the national medical honors program in Boston this month.

Fresh off his graduation from Old Quarry Middle School, Lemont student Daniel "Danny" Luciano III is already looking ahead to a future in medicine.
Danny, who recently completed eighth grade at Old Quarry, has been selected to attend the prestigious Congress of Future Medical Leaders, a national honors program that recognizes academically outstanding students interested in careers in medicine and medical science.
Daniel was nominated to serve as a delegate representing Illinois at the Congress, which will be held in Boston this month. The program brings together high-achieving students from across the country to learn from leading physicians, scientists, medical innovators, and Nobel Prize recipients. Danny's selection was based on his academic achievements, leadership potential, and commitment to pursuing a future in medicine.

Danny's interest in healthcare began at a young age through his own experiences with doctors and medical professionals.
"Since I was young, I've seen a lot of doctors, which sparked my interest in medicine and science," he said. "Being around healthcare workers and seeing how they help people made me curious about how the body works and how treatments can improve someone's health. Over time, that curiosity grew into a stronger interest in learning more about medicine and science."
Several mentors have helped shape his aspirations. He credits the physicians who have cared for him, as well as educators who encouraged him to continue learning and exploring new interests.
"The doctors who have cared for me are so knowledgeable and hardworking that they made me interested in medicine," Danny said. "My principal and teachers have created a culture that encourages you to keep learning and exploring academically and socially, which has helped my interest grow even more."
One childhood memory remains especially meaningful.
"When I was about four years old, I had a camp counselor who was studying medicine," Danny recalled. "He told me, 'Superheroes are doctors, Danny!' He was right."
At the Congress, students will have opportunities to hear from distinguished leaders in medicine, observe medical procedures, and interact directly with professionals in the field. One experience stands out above the rest for Danny.
"I am so excited to witness a live surgery during the Congress," he said. "We get to ask questions in real time with the surgeon. I can't wait to see the doctors working together and using their medical knowledge to help save lives."
Delegates will also have the opportunity to learn from renowned physicians, scientists, and medical researchers while networking with students from across the nation who share similar goals.
At school, Danny enjoys mathematics, citing the challenge and satisfaction that come from problem-solving.
"My favorite subject at school is math because I enjoy problem-solving and working through challenges step by step," he said.
As he prepares to begin high school this fall, Danny is already thinking about the kind of physician he hopes to become.
"I want to become a physician who cares about patients, listens to them, and helps them feel comfortable and supported during difficult times," he said.
Outside the classroom, Danny enjoys playing baseball and spending time with his family. He also hopes to be remembered as someone who works hard, treats others with kindness, and remains committed to his goals.
"I always try to stay positive and be someone my family and friends can be proud of," he said. "I try to be hardworking, caring, and determined to achieve my goals."
As he prepares for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Danny remains grateful for the recognition and eager to continue learning.
"I am excited to continue learning, growing, and giving back to my community in the future," he said. "I am not sure where I will be in the next 10 or 20 years, but I am so grateful for this opportunity."
The Congress of Future Medical Leaders is designed to inspire and encourage the next generation of physicians, researchers, and medical innovators. For Danny, the experience represents another step toward a future dedicated to helping others through medicine.
