LEMONT, IL — At the Illinois Drill Team Association's dance state finals earlier this month, the Old Quarry Middle School took home not just one, but two state championships.

Old Quarry won the state championship in the open pom category and the jazz category in the junior high division.

Dance team coach Amanda Grochowski said Old Quarry's competitive dance team was established six years ago.

"Over the past five years, the team has qualified for the Illinois Drill Team Association State Competition, steadily climbing the ranks each season," Grochowski said.

In last year's competition, the team earned third in open pom and fifth place in the jazz category. Grochowski said this accomplished helped fueled their drive for this season.

For state this year, Grochowski said "the girls were not only prepared — they were determined, focused, and hungry for the title."

"This marks the first time in Lemont history that the dance team has won a state title — and they brought home two," she said.
