Preschoolers Deliver Gifts to Lemont's 'Santa'

Happy Hands students each brought a gift they would want, for donation to a charity founded by a Lemont family in honor of their son.

On December 3–4, the students at Happy Hands Methodist Preschool in Lemont had the opportunity to visit with Santa, but this time, they were bringing him a gift.

Earl Anderson, a Lemont resident, has been dressing as Santa for over 40 years. He and his family began “The Jeff Anderson Children’s Foundation” in 1999, a foundation created after the tragic loss of their beloved son. The foundation raises money, collects donations and purchases toys for severely ill children and needy families in the area. Since 2004, Happy Hand’s has participated in this Christmas mission project with Earl Anderson.

Nearly 100 students at Happy Hands had the opportunity to participate by bringing an unwrapped toy to school on the day of Santa’s visit. The preschoolers embraced the spirit of giving and brought presents they would truly love to give to another child their age. Luckily for the children, Santa was also there to listen to what they want for Christmas this year.

“For many of our preschoolers, the highlight of their visit was giving their toy to Santa. Most of them brought a toy that they hoped to get for Christmas, so they knew another little boy or girl would enjoy it,” said Karin Peraino, director of Happy Hands Preschool. “It was heartwarming to see their generosity.”
