Progress Continues On Athens Park In Downtown Lemont

The anticipated, tentative opening for the park is set for some time in 2025.

LEMONT, IL — Progress on Athens Park, a new park planned in downtown Lemont, continues. The parcel, which is a partnership between the Lemont Park District, Village of Lemont and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, has "been vacant and neglected for many years," the park district said in a release.

The vision for Athens Park includes the redevelopment of the former location of the steel swing bridge and Tri-Central Marine Terminal into a park space, according to the park district.

Permitting has been completed for the site, and bid for construction will be returned this month, the park district said. This will include scrub tree removal, dirt staging and remediating the area in preparation for the park build out which is slated to take place in 2024.
