Trader Joe's Opening 4 New IL Stores: Here's Where

The new stores will bring the Trader Joe's tally in Illinois to 26.

Few grocery stores have a following quite like Trader Joe's does, and lucky for the company's fans in Illinois, four new locations are set to open.

The grocer, founded nearly 80 years ago in Pasedena, California, has experienced a growth spurt in 2026, promising 25 new locations before the year ends, according to reports.

In Illinois, Trader Joe's will open two locations on the North Side of Chicago and two suburban shops:

Trader Joe's operates more than 660 locations across the United States. It's known for its frozen items, fresh produce, in-house brands and specialty items that rotate throughout the year and can only be found in stores.

Although Trader Joe's only operates in the United States, the company is known worldwide. Its tote, for example, became an unlikely global icon earlier this year. The simple canvas bag, running customers $2.99, sold out in stores and commanded up to $50,000 on eBay, The Independent reported. Outside the country, the bag signaled a level of exclusivity, Forbes posited.
