Quarryman Challenge Returns to Lemont

On Saturday, May 13, you may see a couple hundred runners around Lemont.

LEMONT, IL — The Quarryman Challenge will be held in Lemont this Saturday, May 13. The race start and finish line, as well as post-race events are held at the Lemont Village Hall, parking lot and street adjacent to the hall.

However, several streets will be closed and there will be detours set up during the event.

Starting at 6 a.m.:

  • Main Street will be closed from Julia west to Lockport Street (near the VFW) west of the State Street bridge from approximately 6 a.m. - 9 a.m. Main Street west of Stephen may be reopened at 9 a.m.
  • Main Street from Julia to Stephen will be closed from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
  • Lemont Street will be closed from Main Street south to Cass until 9 a.m.
  • Stephen Street will be temporarily closed from Illinois to the train tracks from approximately 7:20 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.
  • The crossing of Main Street at Holmes will be restricted or closed during the race.

The village said downtown will have similar closings as it does during the car show; but Stephen will remain open after the race starts and the streets north of the railroad tracks will remain open and accessible. The Lemont Police Department and other officials will divert traffic around the closures. These streets should be fully reopened by 11 a.m. or earlier.

According to a release, employees and customers of downtown businesses will have car access to all streets, parking, businesses and residents north of the tracks via Stephen after the race starts and via Talcott. Illinois Avenue will remain open to car traffic and for parking, but there will be traffic stoppage on the street while the race is run.
