Rewarding positive behavioral choices are at the forefront of the behavioral program at River Valley School
River Valley School students learn positive behavioral choices

As the new school year begins, the staff and students at River Valley School are working together to emphasize the importance of making good behavioral choices. Students are explicitly taught the behavioral expectations that support the “3 R’s”. This phrase is very familiar to the River Valley students and represents the expectations to Be Ready, Be Responsible, and Be Respectful. The presentations to the students are based on an evidence-based framework for developing positive behavior, which is used in schools nationwide to create a positive climate for learning.
To launch this program for the school year students visit a variety of “Expectation Stations” to review appropriate choices in a wide variety of settings. This assures that every student hears the same message, which will be reiterated throughout the year. The Bulldog mascot and the 3 R’s motto will be posted throughout the school as visual reminders over the coming weeks.
Because of their previous experience with similar programs, fourth-grade teacher Debbie Zaremski and Social Worker Cheryl Berchman brought their experience and expertise to River Valley School. “Spending time at the beginning of the year helping children understand what is expected of them, builds a great foundation for positive relationships between teachers and students and contributes to a successful year for everyone."
