River Valley Sends Appreciation to Local Police Officers
With the passing date of September 11th, the memories of why we appreciate our first responders is clear and present. With the recent attacks and ambushes on police, the desire to show appreciation is great. At the most recent Village Board meeting in Lemont, police officers were honored for their bravery in the line of duty and their commitment to our community and the people who live here. Wanting to be part of the appreciation, River Valley students, along with other local schools, sent cards to thank the police officers of Lemont for their commitment and dedication. Over and over students thanked them for their loyalty to Lemont and for helping big and little people. They thanked the police officers for helping them cross streets when they walk to a field trip destination, for keeping their school safe and for making sure people drove safely. In words only children can write, they thanked the officers for “serving and protecting,” for “taking risks” and for “stopping the real bad guys.” Perhaps the most poignant sentence came from a River Valley student, reading, “… you just don’t catch the bad guys, you make children happy.”
