Road, Parking Lot Construction Begins In Heritage Quarries Area

LEMONT, IL — Construction on three new parking lots in the Heritage Quarry Recreation area began Wednesday, according to a notification from the village of Lemont. The lots will be constructed along the north roadway of the I&M Canal trail passage in the quarry area.

According to the village, construction will begin about 1/2 mile east of the passage entrance near KA Steel and will continue to the new parking lot east of the Great Lakes quarries.

At first, access will be available on the roadway with limited parking. The roadway and parking lot will then close completely from June 30 to July 1 during construction hours. According to the village, once the westernmost lot is complete, the entrance will open and you can access the lot. Roadwork will then continue east of the parking lot with access to the road closed during construction hours.
