Severe Storms Possible Thursday, Friday For Chicago Area
Plus, the remnants of Hurricane Laura will move across far southern Illinois on Friday.
ILLINOIS — Chicago area residents could see some severe storms on both Thursday and Friday. The National Weather Service said there is a storm potential for Thursday afternoon, and scattered strong to possibly severe storms could develop, mainly between 3 and 9 p.m.
There is also a chance of overnight storms. These storms could include strong wind gusts, large hail, lightning and heavy rain, the weather service said.
After storms on Thursday, severe storms are also possible Friday. The weather service said storms will move west to east over northern Illinois, sometime Friday afternoon and evening. There is a risk of winds and large hail with these storms as well.

Not only will the Chicago area see some severe storms, but Hurricane Laura will move across far southern Illinois as a tropical depression on Friday. Several hurricanes have tracked over Illinois after making landfall in the North Atlantic basin, according to the weather service. The most recent was subtropical storm Alberto in May 2018.
The remnants of Hurricane Laura will cause rain, severe thunderstorms and winds over 30 mph in far southern Illinois and Kentucky.
