Tornado Risk, Storms, Dangerous Swim Conditions: Illinois Weather
Severe storms will roll into the area Monday afternoon and evening, some could be severe.

Possibly severe storms could roll into the area Monday afternoon and evening. According to the National Weather Service, there is a significant thunderstorm risk with an elevated tornado risk. The National Weather Service also warned of dangerous swim conditions on Lake Michigan, with life-threatening waves of up to four to 10 feet, through Wednesday. There will be occasional showers and storms from northwest Illinois arcing southeast to portions of east central Illinois.

The NWS said conditions could become favorable for a couple of these storms to potentially become tornadic from mid-afternoon until around sunset. The greatest risk of severe weather is south and west of a line from Dixon to Joliet to Fowler, Indiana.

Hazards with this storm include occasional lightning, gusty winds and heavy rain. According to the NWS, most of the area including the southern and western suburbs fall under a limited risk for tornadoes, while the far south suburbs like Kankakee fall under an elevated risk.
