The 83-pound Gold team of the Lemont Hornets beat the Lyons Township Tigers last Sunday 25-16 to become the first Lemont team to win a Super Bowl in the Bill George Youth Football League (“BGYFL”). This is the first year that the Hornets played in the BGYFL, moving from River Valley Youth Football League after last year’s season. The game was played at Benedictine University in Lisle, IL.
This is their 11th consecutive win, ending their season a perfect 11-0. The Tigers played a great game, giving the Hornets their biggest challenge of the season. In the end, it was Lemont’s relentless offense and fundamentally sound blocking and tackling that helped lead them to victory. The Hornets players came ready to play; they were poised, confident and extremely focused. They didn’t miss a beat; they knew that they had to continue to do what they’ve done all year, and play error-free football, and they would bring home the trophy.
The Hornets made this an event to remember, having the players and coaches picked up and transported to and from the game in a coach bus, and throwing a great victory party after the game. Several Hornets fans, including many players and coaches from the other Hornets teams, came to support the team. They brought signs, noise makers, and even decorated their cars in team spirit. On the way to their victory party, the team received a police escort into town.
