Tornado Warning Issued For Lake, McHenry, Cook Counties

A tornado warning is in effect until 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.

ILLINOIS — A tornado warning has been issued for Lake County, southeastern McHenry County and north central Cook County until 7:45 p.m. Wednesday. The National Weather Service said at 6:53 p.m., a severe storm capable of producing a tornado was located over Wauconda, moving east at 30 mph.

The storm will be near Buffalo Grove, North Chicago, Park City, Lincolnshire and Bannockburn around 7:20 p.m.; Lake Forest, Deerfield and Riverwoods around 7:25 p.m.; Highland Park around 7:30 p.m.; and Glencoe around 7:35 p.m.

The NWS said other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include Mettawa, Lake Bluff, Round Lake Park, Fox River Grove, North Barrington, Fox River Valley, Round Lake Heights, Lake Barrington, Deer Park and Highwood.

According to the NWS, flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows and vehicles will occur and tree
damage is likely.

Those in the path of this storm should move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. The NWS said if you are outdoors, in a mobile home or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
