Well In Lemont Needs To Be Pulled For Maintenance

A professional service must now pull the well out of the ground to check for issues.

LEMONT, IL — One of the wells in Lemont is awaiting maintenance after it started having issues last week.

"We went to go kick on the well, and it kicked the large breaker out," Public Works Director Ralph Pukula said during Monday's Village Board meeting. "Once that happens, we automatically call the professionals."

He said the professional service came out and did testing above the well, and found no issues.

"They found nothing, meaning that they have to pull the well out of the hole and find out what happened 1,100 feet down," Pukula said.

The department is waiting for the professional service to come back with equipment to pull the well.

"Hopefully it's nothing too major," Pukula said.

Well No. 4 is on Houston Street, Pukula told Patch in an email. The well pumps less than the larger capacity wells, and it will not affect residents in any way, Pukula said.

According to the Village website, the Village maintains four deep wells, one shallow well, two above ground storage tank ground level storage tank and three booster pumps as part of its water system.

Two years ago, Lemont had an issue with its Well No. 6, which caused watering restrictions throughout the summer.
