Coroner IDs Man Killed In Lake Co. Hit And Run

Authorities are looking for the driver who allegedly hit a 63-year-old man and then fled the scene.

LAKE COUNTY, IL – The Lake County Coroner has identified the 63-year-old Waukegan man killed in a hit and run crash over the weekend as Robert Barron. An autopsy performed Monday afternoon revealed Barron died from injuries caused by blunt force trauma, Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper said in a news release. Meanwhile, authorities are continuing to search for the driver in the fatal crash, police said Tuesday afternoon.

The collision occurred in the area of West Crescent Avenue and Northern Avenue in Waukegan Township at about 6:45 p.m. on Saturday. A preliminary investigation by the Lake County Sheriff's Office shows Barron was walking on Crescent Avenue just north of Northern Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver fled the scene following the collision, police said. Authorities found Barron in the front of a home in the the 12400 block of West Crescent Avenue. He was taken to Vista East Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit. As of Tuesday afternoon, no one had been arrested in connection with the crash, Lake County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Christopher Covelli said.
