1 Dead, Teen Seriously Injured in Lake County Crash

LAKE COUNTY, IL -- A 55-year-old Beach Park man is dead and a teen sustained serious injuries following a crash in Wadsworth Saturday night, authorities said. A preliminary investigation shows a 2016 Hyundai Sonata, driven by a 17-year-old Zion girl, was headed north on Delany Road when it crossed the centerline and hit a southbound 2007 Chrysler Pacifica, driven by the Beach Park man, at about 7:50 p.m., according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office. The Beach Park man was taken to Vista East Hospital in Waukegan where he was pronounced dead.

The teen was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries. A 32-year-old man who was a passenger in the Chrysler was taken to Vista East Hospital with serious injuries, according to authorities.

A small amount of debris from a Kia Spectra was also found at the scene. The Kia Spectra was located a short distance away at a gas station near Delany Road and York House Road. Crash investigators are working to determine if the Kia was involved in the initial crash or struck debris from the initial crash, according to a news release.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene. An autopsy has been scheduled Monday afternoon for the Beach Park man.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit, according to a news release.
