$160K Bail For Man Arrested In Libertyville Burglaries

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — A 37-year-old man faces several burglary charges for allegations he went into at least two homes and a vehicle in Libertyville in September and stole items.

Kyle C. Kowal, of the 600 block of West Street, faces charges of residential burglary, aggravated battery to a police officer, criminal trespass to a residence and criminal damage to property following his Sept. 23 arrest.

Authorities launched an investigation into the burglary after responding to a burglary alarm in the 200 block of West Cook Avenue at about 2:45 a.m. on Sept. 23, according to a report from the Libertyville Police Department. When they arrived, officers found an open garage door and footprints in the grass leading west toward Lange court.

A K9 unit assisted at the scene, and officers found a man inside a nearby home, according to the police report. Police contacted the homeowner, who told police only her two teenage daughters should be in the home.

The man, who was later identified as Kowal, left the home through a rear door and fled on foot through the backyard toward officers, according to authorities. He was arrested after a brief struggle.

Kowal suffered a minor injury and was taken to a hospital for treatment and later released. During an investigation into the burglaries, authorities determined Kowal stole items from a vehicle as well, according to the police report.
