2 Libertyville Schools Earn National Blue Ribbon Award

St. Joseph Catholic School and Copeland Manor Elementary School have been selected as 2017 National Blue Ribbon Schools.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL – Two Libertyville schools are among 342 schools nationwide to be selected as 2017 National Blue Ribbon Schools. Copeland Manor Elementary School and St. Joseph Catholic School were selected as exemplary high-performing schools as part of the National Blue Ribbon Program's 2017 winners. Exemplary high-performing schools have their state’s highest high school graduation rates and the highest achieving students – those in the top 15 percent – in English and mathematics, measured by state assessments, according to a news release.


The local schools were among 21 schools in the city of Chicago and Chicago suburbs selected as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2017. In addition, St. Joseph Catholic School joined five other Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic schools, which were named as 2017 National Blue Ribbon schools. Nearby, Saint Gilbert Catholic School also earned a blue ribbon designation this year.

The U.S. Department of Education will honor 292 public and 50 private schools at a recognition ceremony on Nov. 6 to 7 in Washington, D.C. In its 35-year history, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed this coveted award on some 8,500 schools.
