$200K Bail For Man Accused Of Assault, Battering Officer

Mario Coleman remains behind bars following the Oct. 2 incident in Libertyville.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — A Round Lake man accused of threatening a person with a knife and then assaulting a Libertyville Police Department officer now faces aggravated assault and battery charges.

Mario Coleman, 40, of the 300 block of W. Forest Avenue in Round Lake, was taken into custody at about 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 2 after police officers responded to the reported assault in the 500 block of N. Milwaukee Avenue, according to a police report. The person who was assaulted told police a man threatened to harm him with a knife, authorities said.

The person gave officers a description of the man, and officers located Coleman, who they said matched that description, on the sidewalk nearby. Officers spoke with him and found a knife in his pocket, according to a police report.

According to police, Coleman tried to resist arrest while officers were taking him into custody, but he was handcuffed and taken to the Libertyville Police Department. While at the police department, he is accused of battering an officer.

The officer did not require medical attention, according to the police report.

Coleman has been charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting a police officer. His bail has been set at $200,000, and he remains in custody at the Lake County Jail, according to online jail records.

He is next expected in court on Nov. 2.
