28 Dead Cats, 1 Dead Squirrel Found Inside Waukegan Home: Police

WAUKEGAN, IL — A 54-year-old woman faces aggravated cruelty to animal charges after 28 dead cats and one dead squirrel were found inside her home in Waukegan in June, authorities said. A warrant was issued Tuesday for the arrest of Linnea Kohl after necropsies were performed on three of the dead cats that were found inside her home in the 300 block of South Elmwood Avenue, according to a news release from the police department.
The Waukegan Police Department's Police Animal Control and Neighborhood Policing Unit launched an investigation on June 20 after receiving complaints regarding concerns of animals being treated poorly at the home on South Elmwood Avenue, according to the press release. Authorities responded to the home and recovered 74 cats and 11 feral cats.
The cats were either relocated to 12 different shelter or rescue organizations or three certified feral cat locations, according to the press release.

Kohl has been charged with three counts of aggravated cruelty to animals. Her bond was set at $20,000, and she is next expected in court on Aug. 7.
If Kohl is released from jail, she has been ordered not to have any companion animals.
