3 Lake Co. Businesses Cited During Recent Compliance Checks

One of the businesses cited for tobacco violations was located in Libertyville Township and the other two were in Wadsworth.

LAKE COUNTY, IL – A Libertyville Township business has been cited for violating the county's ordinance of selling to a person under 21 years old during recent compliance checks. The Lake County Sheriff's Office conducted compliance checks in May and cited three businesses, including the Country Corner in Libertyville Township, for ordinance violations, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. The two other businesses were cited for selling tobacco to someone under the age of 18 years old.

Last year, the Lake County became the first in the state to ban the sale of cigarettes, e-cigarettes and other tobacco products to those under the age of 21. The ordinance only applies in unincorporated areas.

On May 29, during the compliance checks, sheriff's office officials said the clerk at the Country Corner, 1741 Diamond Lake Road in Libertyville Township, sold tobacco to someone under the age of 21 years old. Both the business and the clerk, Ramesh Barot, were cited, according to authorities.

  • Wadsworth Shell Station, 41867 North Route 41 in Wadsworth, and a clerk at the gas station, Muhammed Yaseen, 58, were cited during the May 21 compliance check.

The individual who sold tobacco to someone over the age of 18, but under 21, was issued a Lake County Ordinance violation, according to the news release.
