32% Of Lake Co. Cases Are Men, Women In 20s, 30s

LAKE COUNTY, IL — The new coronavirus is sickening people of all ages and 32 percent of those who've contracted the virus in Lake County are in their 20s and 30s, according to health officials. As of Wednesday afternoon, 4,668 residents in the county have had the virus and of those, 1,517 were between the ages of 20 and 39 years old.
This data shows that people of all ages should continue to take COIVD-19 pandemic seriously, Lake County health officials said in statement on Wednesday.
"The data is very clear, anyone at any age can contract the novel coronavirus COVID-19,” said Lake County Health Department Executive Director Mark Pfister. "We have to keep working together, and follow mitigation guidance if we want to slow the spread of COVID-19. Whether you are 25 or 65, you can contract COVID-19, so everyone needs to take precautions."

On Wednesday, health officials in Lake County reported 269 additional cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours and two new deaths. A woman in her 90s and another woman in her 80s, both with underlying health conditions, were the latest Lake County residents to die from the virus, according to the Lake County Health Department's daily update.

To date, 4,688 people have tested positive for the virus in Lake County. And 157 have died from it.
Health officials are also continuing to investigate how the virus is spreading in the county's long-term care facilities. To date, 36 facilities have two or more positive cases. There are a total of 705 confirmed coronavirus cases reported among nursing home residents as of Wednesday and 105 deaths, health officials said.
