83 Citations, 5 Arrests During Lake Co. Holiday Traffic Campaign
The Lake County Sheriff's Office upped its enforcement efforts over the Thanksgiving holiday to curb drunken driving and other violations.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — The results are in from the Lake County Sheriff's Office's recent Thanksgiving traffic safety campaign.
Between Nov. 19 and 29, deputies were out in full force keeping an eye out for traffic violations. During that time, officers arrested two people for driving while under the influence and also issued 23 seatbelt and child safety seat citations.

They also arrested five people for driving with a suspended or revoked driver's license and issued 42 speeding citations and 18 other traffic citations.

During the mobilization, extra emphasis was placed on enforcement during late-night hours, when statistics show the most unbuckled and impaired driving fatalities occur, according to the sheriff's office.
The Thanksgiving enforcement effort is made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
