All Libertyville Businesses Pass Tobacco Compliance Checks
The Libertyville Police Department checked 17 businesses on April 3.

From Libertyville Police Department: On Tuesday, April 3, 2018, Libertyville Police detectives conducted a tobacco enforcement detail at various tobacco-licensed establishments within the Village of Libertyville. The goal of this operation was to educate and strictly enforce the unlawful sale of tobacco products to minors under 18 years of age, and to verify that all establishments had prominently displayed signs prohibiting the sale of tobacco products to minors.
Under the direct supervision of Libertyville detectives, a 17-year-old youth decoy was used at 17
establishments in an attempt to purchase cigarettes. The 17 establishments included gas stations, liquor
stores, and drug stores, and all of the establishments were in compliance and displayed proper signage
as required by law.
The Libertyville Police would like to express their appreciation and congratulate these businesses and
their employees who complied with the law, requested identification, and refused to complete a sale
to the minor. “This is an important health and safety issue,” said Police Chief Clint Herdegen.
“We’re extremely impressed that the businesses in Libertyville take this matter seriously. They are
to be commended for following the law and helping to keep the kids in our community tobacco free.”
