LIBERTYVILLE, IL — Deputies and a police dog are credited with stopping a burglary in progress late Saturday night at a business in unincorporated Libertyville and helping recover stolen equipment, authorities said.

The incident happened around 11:20 p.m. Sunday, when the sheriff’s 911 center received a report from a property owner who had rented out a flatbed trailer that was not returned, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. The owner told dispatchers the trailer was equipped with GPS tracking and had been located at a business in the 14200 block of West Rockland Road.

The suspects were identified as Corey Dismukes, 56, of Chicago, and Emmanuel Harper, 45, of Milwaukee, Wis. A third suspect fled the scene as deputies arrived.

Deputies reviewed surveillance footage and determined the third individual ran just as law enforcement arrived. K-9 Simba tracked the suspect approximately 1.5 miles away, where James Yancey, 35, of Chicago Heights, was found hiding in a forest preserve and taken into custody without incident, police said.

All three suspects were arrested and charged with burglary and felony theft, according to the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office.

They were due in court Monday morning.
