Police Dog, Deputies Credited With Stopping Burglary In Progress
Lake County sheriff's K-9 Simba tracks fleeing suspect as three men are arrested in skid steer theft attempt, officials say
LIBERTYVILLE, IL — Deputies and a police dog are credited with stopping a burglary in progress late Saturday night at a business in unincorporated Libertyville and helping recover stolen equipment, authorities said.
The incident happened around 11:20 p.m. Sunday, when the sheriff’s 911 center received a report from a property owner who had rented out a flatbed trailer that was not returned, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. The owner told dispatchers the trailer was equipped with GPS tracking and had been located at a business in the 14200 block of West Rockland Road.
When deputies arrived, they spotted two men near the trailer loading two skid steers onto it, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators later determined the equipment was being stolen from the property.
