Beach Park Man Dead After Head-On Crash In Waukegan

Waukegan Police Department officials reported a Dodge traveling westbound crossed the centerline and hit a Ford traveling eastbound.

WAUKEGAN, IL — Waukegan Police Department officials are investigating after one person died from injuries sustained in a head-on collision involving what investigators believe to be two vehicles Thursday night at the intersection of York House Road and East End Avenue. Police officials said officers from the department's patrol division were dispatched at 7 p.m. to the intersection for a serious car accident involving a 2000 Ford Mustang traveling eastbound on York House Road at East End Avenue and a 2018 Dodge Challenger traveling westbound. According to a release, investigators believe the Dodge crossed the centerline and hit the Ford, being driven by a male Beach Park resident in his 70s.

Police officials said the Ford's driver was wearing his seatbelt, but due to injuries was taken to an area hospital where he died. Lake County Illinois Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper scheduled an autopsy for Friday, police said.

The Dodge was occupied by a man, woman and female teen, all residents of Alaska, who were all taken to an area hospital where they were treated and released, according to police. Police add that the driver, a male in his 60s, is being cited for improper lane usage and toxicology results on him are pending.
