Hey Lake County families! This July, you don't have to travel far for an unforgettable adventure — the United Methodist Church of Libertyville (UMCL) is bringing the rainforest right here to our community, and your kids are invited!
We're happy to announce Rainforest Falls VBS, running from Monday, July 13 to Thursday, July 16, 2026. Think chattering birds, howling monkeys, and a lush jungle canopy — all setting the stage for a week your children won't forget. Kids ages 3 through 5th grade will dive into Bible stories, explore hands-on activities, compete in team games, sing and dance, and unleash their creativity through crafts, all while discovering that God is their creator and a steady anchor through life's storms."We are so excited to bring the magic of the rainforest to our community," says Annemarie Barry, Director of Spiritual Growth at UMCL. "This program is designed to meet children exactly where they are — helping them build friendships, explore nature, and grow in faith in a fun, safe, and welcoming space."
Here's what you need to know:
Dates: Monday, July 13 – Thursday, July 16
Time: 9:00 a.m. – noon (Dropoff begins at 8:45 a.m.)
Location: United Methodist Church of Libertyville, 
429 Brainerd Ave, Libertyville, IL 60048
Who: Kids ages 3* through 5th
grade 
*Children must be fully potty-trained.
Cost: $35 per child by June 15; $45 June 16 – July 4. Registration closes on July 4.

Participants, their families, and caregivers are also invited to a VBS Celebration in worship on Sunday, July 19, at 9:30 a.m.

Spring is here—it’s time to GO FLY A KITE!
Gift of Wings is excited to announce the return of the 92.1 VTY Country IKEA Outta Sight Kite Flight, presented by Gift of Wings, taking place Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7 at Kennedy Park, a City of Kenosha park located on Kenosha’s beautiful lakefront.
Now celebrating 23 years in Kennedy Park, this beloved community tradition runs from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both days, featuring the spectacular Grand Launch of more than 400 to 500 kites at noon each day.
Festival guests will enjoy performances by world-class kite flyers, including the internationally recognized Fire &amp; Ice Precision Kite Team, returning for their 17th year with three performances daily.
Also returning for their 17th appearance, the Canadian Dream Team will showcase two GIANT whale kites, the debut of a new 120-foot Trilobite kite, and the exclusive IKEA Shark Kite, available only at the Outta Sight Kite Flight Flight kite Festival.
Additional featured performers include Milwaukee professional kite flyer Paul Koepke, Vancouver’s Jim Almas, and Montreal’s Jean Lemire, who will attempt to fly three to four stunt kites simultaneously to music, and The Flying Emus, performing with four-line stunt kites. Amy and Connie Doran, known from America’s Got Talent, will also entertain guests throughout the weekend.
Families won’t want to miss the Leaf Guard Kids Mad Dash, where the first 100 participating children each day will receive a free kite and launch them together in a colorful sky-filled celebration.
Gift of Wings will also have kites and food available for purchase during the event.
The 92.1 VTY Country IKEA Outta Sight Kite Flight, presented by Gift of Wings and the City of Kenosha, is free to attend and offers free parking.

Ragdale, the nationally acclaimed artists’ residency program, located on the former Arts and Crafts country estate of architect Howard Van Doren Shaw, offers tours of the historic Ragdale House. Participants will learn about the Shaw family history and the celebrated artist in residence program. Visitors can experience the seven-acre site which includes three historic homes, several artist studios, gardens and vistas of the 50-acres Shaw Prairie. The Ragdale House and the Barn House, originally built in 1897, are both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Tour donations help to support the mission of Ragdale.
ADMISSION: $15/person and online reservations must be made in advance
