Deteriorated Truss Over Libertyville Bridge To Be Removed
Village officials said it was not cost effective to repair the truss on the Rockland Road bridge over the Des Plaines River.
LIBERTYVILLE, IL – A decorative truss that has been attached to the Rockland Road bridge over the Des Plaines River for 56 years will be removed. The bridge was recently closed on Feb. 1 after the Illinois Department of Transportation determined the existing steel truss system had significant levels of deterioration during a recent inspection.
Village officials talked about removing and storing the truss and repairing it but ultimately, they decided it was not cost effective to do so, according to the Daily Herald. Now, the truss will be removed – a project that could take two weeks –before the bridge can be reopened.
"We've made the decision to scrap the metal (from the steel truss system)," Village Administrator Chris Clark told the Daily Herald. "Removal and haul-away is the best method from a cost standpoint."
