Drunk Driver Runs Into Railroad Crossing Gate: Police

The single-vehicle collision happened during the early morning hours of New Year's Day, police said.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — A 35-year-old woman was arrested for drunken driving after she ran into a railroad crossing gate during the early morning hours of New Year's Day, authorities said. The collision occurred at 1:26 a.m. on Jan. 1 in the area of 800 W. Winchester Road, according to a Libertyville Police Department report.

When officers arrived at the scene they found the driver, identified as Valerie L. Centano, 35, of Cicero, who appeared to be under the influence, according to police. They also found considerable damage to her vehicle.

She was taken into custody and released after posting her driver's license and a personal recognizance bond and is charged with driving under the influence and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Centano is next expected in court on Jan. 24.
