Drunk Man Arrested in Library Parking Lot After Refusing Officer’s Advice to Take a Cab: Police

Allan I. Dalba of Northbrook was arrested for public intoxication and resisting arrest.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL - A 67-year-old Northbrook man may have avoided an arrest if he would have just followed the advice of police officers in Libertyville.

Police were called to the Cook Memorial Library parking lot, 413 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville, at 8:40 p.m. on July 28 for a report of an intoxicated person who was attempting to drive. When they arrived, they found Allan I. Dalba who was about to get into his vehicle, which was parked in the parking lot, according to a Libertyville Police Department press release.

Officers smelled alcohol on Dalba’s breath and noted his slurred speech, police said. When it was suggested Dalba take a taxi or have a friend drive him home, Dalba refused to comply. He also resisted officers when he was told he was under arrest, according to the police report.

Dalba has been charged with public intoxication and resisting a peace officer. His court date is scheduled for August 17 at the Mundelein Branch Court.
