3 Girls Hiking Find Crash Wreckage, Man Dead Inside Car: Police
Three juvenile hikers spotted a car that crashed into a tree in a field near Mundelein, police said. A deceased man was found inside.
LAKE COUNTY, IL – Three girls out hiking near Mundelein happened upon the wreckage from a fatal crash Saturday morning, authorities said Sunday. The three juvenile hikers were walking in the area of 20303 West Winchester Road in unincorporated Mundelein at 11:10 a.m. Saturday when they spotted a car, which had crashed into a tree. When authorities arrived, they found a white man dead in the driver's seat of the 2010 gold Toyota Prius, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
A preliminary investigation shows the Toyota was heading east on Winchester Road east of Route 83 when it went into the field. The car then headed south through the field and struck a tree, according to a news release.
The man's identity has not been released as authorities work to complete an autopsy and notify his family, police said.
