Great Lakes Naval Military Member Killed In Crash Into Fence Pole: Coroner
The 22-year-old man died in the collision Monday evening in Waukegan.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — A Great Lakes Naval Station military member died in a collision in Waukegan Monday evening, authorities told Patch.
Hayden Jones, 22, of Oklahoma, has been identified as the man killed in the crash, which happened at about 6:30 p.m. on Monday in the 1100 block of South Lewis Avenue in Waukegan, according to a news release from the Lake County Coroner's Office.
Authorities say Jones was driving south on Lewis Avenue when his vehicle went off the road and crashed through a fence and into trees. The fence pole went through the windshield of his car, staking him, according to the news release.

Jones was the only person inside the vehicle, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary results from an autopsy show Jones died from blunt force Injuries of the head as a result of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department Major Crash Unit.
