Gun Pulled As 2 Hijack Mercedes In Libertyville

The Libertyville Police Department is asking for the public's help in tracking down the culprits.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — The Libertyville Police Department is asking for the public's help in tracking down two people accused of pulling a gun on a car owner and stealing a Mercedes SL500 Sunday night in Libertyville, authorities said Monday. Two people, both males, are accused of demanding the car owner's keys and cell phone and then hitting that person over the head before fleeing with the vehicle.

The vehicular hijacking took place in the area of the Red Top Plaza, at the intersection of Milwaukee Avenue and Red Top Drive, at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The males got out of their black Volkswagen before approaching the car owner.

One person drove away in the car owner's Mercedes, which is described as a silver Mercedes SL500 with a black hood, roof, and trunk, and the other left in the black Volkswagen.

The car owner was treated by Libertyville Fire Department paramedics at the scene and then released. The incident is still under investigation.
