Gurnee Teen Speeding, Swerving In Vehicle Charged With DUI: Cops

The 19-year-old was pulled over last week in Libertyville, police said.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL – A Gurnee teen accused of swerving his car while speeding down Peterson Road last week now faces drunken driving charges, police said. Jefry Hicban Malit, of the 5000 block of Solomon Court in Gurnee, was pulled over at 12:30 a.m. on July 16 after police witnessed his vehicle weaving in and out of his lane of traffic, according to a police department report. Malit was pulled over in a parking lot on Peterson Road just west of Milwaukee Avenue.

Authorities said they detected a strong odor of alcohol. Field sobriety tests confirmed that Malit had been driving under the influence, according to the police report.

Malit was arrested and his vehicle was towed. He was released after posting his driver's license and a $1,000 personal recognizance bond.

Malit has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol over .08, underage consumption of alcohol, speeding, improper lane usage and operating an uninsured vehicle.

He is next expected in court on Aug. 10.
