Jewelry, Cash Stolen During Ruse Burglary: Police

The Libertyville Police Department is investigating a ruse burglary that occurred on Drake Street on Oct. 27.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL —Libertyville police are investigating a ruse burglary involving a man who entered a home in the 300 block of Drake Street and convinced the homeowner to step outside with him.

Police say the homeowner was in her bedroom when she heard footsteps within the home at about 3:20 p.m. on Oct. 27. She walked out of her bedroom and say a Hispanic male, who she did not know, near the staircase, according to a Libertyville Police Department report.

He told the woman he was with a tree service company and had been knocking on her door, waiting for her to answer. He said he was interested in removing a tree in the backyard of her home and the homeowner walked outside with him, according to the police report.

While they were in the backyard, the man received a phone call and then abruptly walked to the front of the home, got into a truck with a driver and the duo drove away, according to a police report.

The homeowner went back inside her home and found her bedroom in disarray. Jewelry and cash was missing, she told police.
