Judge Denies Sheriff's Request For Coronavirus Patient Info
Under the agreement, Lake County health officials will need to provide info regarding new inmates and if they have the coronavirus.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Health Department will be required to provide information to the Lake County jail's medical provider if they request it regarding whether a new inmate has previously been tested for the coronavirus, the Daily Herald is reporting. The agreement came as part of a Lake County judge's overall denial of Sheriff John Idleburg's legal bid to force local health officials to provide information about coronavirus patients.
The sheriff sued the health department last month after health officials refused to provide addresses and names of county residents who have tested positive for the virus, according to the Daily Herald. Lake County Sheriff Sgt. Chris Covelli told the newspaper the measure, which would provide the jail with information regarding a new inmates COVID-19 status, would help prevent the spread of the virus in the "jail's congregate setting."
