Lake Minear Beach May Need to Close if It Doesn't See Membership Boost

The beach had 800 members in 2013 and had only 510 members last year.

Volunteers are rallying to increase membership numbers for Lake Minear Beach as the number of members has dropped dramatically since 2013, the Libertyville Review reports. Flooding issues in 2013 resulted in about 65 cases of swimmer’s itch, which is a skin condition, and since then the beach has seen its membership drop from 800 members to 510 in 2015.

“We have to get our membership up this year with 800 members, otherwise we won’t have enough money to open in 2017,” Mary Conn of Libertyville, director of membership, told the Libertyville Review. Since 2013, there have been no reported cases of swimmer’s itch and volunteers are hoping people will again sign up as members.
