Libertyville Blotter: Hit-And-Run, Stolen Registration Plates
The Libertyville Police Department made the following arrests in recent days.
LIBERTYVILLE, IL — The Libertyville Police Department responded to the following reports in recent weeks:
July 21: Libertyville Police Department officers were called to the area of Milwaukee Avenue and North Artaius Parkway for a report of a hit-and-run crash that occurred at about 1:30 p.m. on July 21. Officers got information from the driver of the vehicle that was hit and identified the hit-and-run driver as Marcos Barraza, 19, of the 600 block of Pleasure Drive in Mundelein, according to a police report. Barraza was arrested and was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failure to provide information or render aid, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
July 30: Libertyville police officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was driving in the wrong lane of traffic on West Church Street, west of Milwaukee Avenue, at about 11 p.m. on July 30. The driver, identified as Rebecca Smith, 39, showed signs of impairment and was arrested based on the results from field sobriety tests, according to a police report. She have been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence BAC .08 or more and driving on the wrong side of the road.

Aug. 1: The Libertyville Police Department pulled over a vehicle spotted heading south on Stewart Avenue near Route 176 for reports that it was displaying stolen registration plates. The officer pulled over the vehicle at about 12:30 p.m. in the 200 block of North Stewart Avenue and spoke with the driver, who was identified as Ryan Thomas, 44, of the 200 block of Stewart Avenue. The officer confirmed the vehicle had two different registration plates on it and both had previously been reported stolen. Thomas was taken into custody and charged with forgery, two counts of stolen registration, possession of an open title, operating an uninsured vehicle and driving while license revoked. His bond was set at $10,000 and he was transported to the Lake County Jail.
Aug. 1: A 50-year-old Lake Bluff woman wanted on a warrant was arrested after she was pulled over for drunken driving in Libertyville, police said. Claudia Van Dixhorn, of the 500 block of East Scranton Avenue, now faces driving under the influence, disobeying a traffic control device and improper lane usage charges after she was pulled over in the area of Winchester Road and Milwaukee Avenue just before 9 p.m. on Aug. 1. Van Dixhorn posted the $1,000 bond on her warrant for failure to appear and also posted bond on the drunken driving charges.
