Libertyville Blotter: Loaded Gun In Car; DUIs

The Libertyville Police Department made several arrests in recent weeks.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — The Libertyville Police Department has made the following arrests in recent weeks:

Obstructing Identification

A Round Lake Height man accused of giving local police officers a fake name now faces a obstructing identification charge. Jamaree T. Payne, 21, of the 600 block of Cedarwood Circle, was arrested on Jan. 4 after officer responded to the 500 block of W. Park Avenue in Libertyville to follow up on a report of an "unwanted subject" in the area.

When they arrived at the scene at about 6:10 p.m., they asked a man to identify himself, according to a police report. They said Payne provided them with a name "that was later determined to be false."

He was arrested and taken to the Libertyville Police Department and later released on a $2,500 recognizance bond.

DUI

A 53-year-old Libertyville woman faces drunken driving charges following a two-vehicle crash in Libertyville earlier this month. Kathleen Slater of the 700 block of S. Milwaukee Avenue is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and operating an uninsured vehicle in connection with the Jan. 7 collision.

Police said the crash happened at 7:36 p.m. at Route 176 and Route 21. Officers noticed "multiple indicators of impairment" while talking to Slater and was arrested after authorities conducted a field sobriety test on her.

She was taken to the Libertyville Police Department and cited. She was released after posting her driver’s license and signing a $1,000 personal recognizance bond.

Unlawful Use of a Weapon

A 30-year-old Park City man faces charges after police found a loaded gun in his car. Police pulled his vehicle over at 5:26 p.m. on Jan. 9 when patrolling in the area of Butterfield and Winchester roads.

They spoke with the driver, Jonathan Johnson, and noticed the smell of marijuana coming from his vehicle, according to the police report. While searching the car, they found a loaded firearm.

Johnson was arrested and taken to the Libertyville Police Department. He is charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, failure to signal when required and driving under the influence. His bail was set at $30,000 and he was released on a personal recognizance bond.

DUI

Authorities in Libertyville responded to a two-vehicle crash early on Jan. 10 at Route 21 and Route 137. Jason Marten, 37, is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident in connection with the crash, police said.

Martens was released after signing a $3,000 personal recognizance bond and is next expected in court on Feb. 5.

DUI

A 26-year-old Grayslake man was arrested for DUI after officers noticed several traffic violations, including lane violations, in the area of Route 176 and Route 21 at about 2 a.m. on Jan. 24. An officer stopped the vehicle on Route 176 near Woodland Road.

The driver, Auner Solis Agustin, 26, of the 33000 block of North Lakeshore Drive, was asked to perform field sobriety tests and was then arrested for drunken driving, police said. He was taken to the to the Libertyville Police Department where he was processed and cited for driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence BAC over .08, illegal transportation of alcohol and improper lane usage.

Agustin is next expected in court on Feb. 12.
