Libertyville Businesses Award $6,250 to District 70
Partners for Excellence in Education has awarded mini-grants to teachers at Libertyville Elementary School District 70.

A group of Libertyville businesses awarded $6,250 to programs at during the school board meeting Monday.
Partners for Excellence in Education — a group of local business representatives who offer their time and financial donations to — awarded 16 mini-grants to support unique programs proposed by teachers in the district.
“I think those that received the awards certainly deserved them because they are people of excellence,” said David Stuart, president and founder of , who presented the awards on behalf of the Partners for Excellence in Education.

Started in 1995, Partners for Excellence in Education was the first school and business partnership in Lake County. It began with a $10,000 donation from the former Motorola Inc. to and expanded from there, according to school district officials.

One of the grants this year will go to kindergartners in and . Students will learn about recycling throughout the school year and track the amount of paper they each have recycled with a goal of recycling enough to plant a new tree in Libertyville. The grant was awarded to teachers Denis Dorf, Angelia Pontarelli, Maggie Barrett and Jaine Hogan.
Another grant will be used to transform the new, asphalt landscape at into a colorful arrangement of games such as hopscotch, alphabet grids and number grids. The grant was awarded to teachers Bill Etnyre, Pat Krech, Candice Kehoe and Andy Elbert.
