Libertyville Movember Bar Crawl To Promote Men's Health

Local restaurants, businessmen and community members have teamed up to promote men's prostate health awareness.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — MainStreet Libertyville Chairman Andy Lausch teamed up with the owner of Mickey Finn’s Brewery, Brian Grano, to create a Movember fall bar crawl in downtown Libertyville. Dedicated to promoting awareness of men's health issues, the crawl will be held on Thursday, Nov. 15.

The event will feature at least 11 stops, organizers said.

Lausch was inspired to create the bar crawl last year after his friend was diagnosed with testicular cancer.

“While he was able to catch it in time, he said he was calling every guy he could think of, to help drive awareness of men’s health," Lausch said. "He encouraged them all to get checked out by a doctor.”

“I thought that was a very kind and brave thing for him to do. Guys really aren’t that good at talking about these kinds of things. As I never really thought about men’s health issues like that in the past, his call got me thinking – not only about how it is important for me to be healthy for my wife and four daughters, but it also made me ask myself, “what can I do to help drive awareness of men’s health issues, just like my friend did?””

Lausch then reached out to his friend Brian Grano, the owner of Mickey Finn’s Brewery.

“A bar crawl to drive traffic to our local, small businesses, which also raises money for a great cause - men’s health issues,” Grano said. "And, come on...Who doesn’t want an excuse to grow a funny mustache?”

Participating bar crawl businesses include Cafe Pomigliano, Chili U, Downing's, Island Tap, Main Street Social, Mickey Finn's, Milwalky Taco, Morgan’s, O'Toole’s, Pizzeria DeVille and Shakou.

The bar crawl will be held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15. Participation requires a $40 donation from each bar crawler (and $200 donations from each participating establishment). The participants will receive a wristband giving them the ability to purchase food and drink specials from each of the bar crawl stops. Donations will go directly to funding innovative research addressing some of the biggest health issues faced by men.
